Nightmare on Front Street 2026: Everything You Need to Know

San Francisco closes a street downtown and lets a few thousand people drink in it. That is the short version of Nightmare on Front Street, and it is back on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 4pm to 10pm.
Harrington's sits in the middle of the block, so here is the practical guide: what it is, when to turn up, how to get here, and what to do if you want somewhere to actually sit down.
The essentials
- Date: Friday, October 30, 2026
- Time: 4:00pm to 10:00pm
- Where: Front Street, between California and Sacramento
- Cost: Free
- Ages: All ages. 21+ to drink, valid ID required
- Costumes: Strongly encouraged
What makes this one different
Most Halloween parties in this city happen inside a building. This one happens on the street, legally, because Front Street is California's first Entertainment Zone.
That designation is the whole trick. Inside the zone, on event days, you can buy a drink from one of the bars and carry it outside. The street becomes the venue. Three bars anchor the block: Schroeder's, the Royal Exchange and us.
The format has worked since the zone launched. The first Halloween edition drew thousands of people into a part of downtown that is usually dead after six on a Friday, and it has become the thing the Financial District does for Halloween.
What to expect on the night
Live DJs on the street, themed cocktails, food, and a costume density that climbs steadily from about four o'clock onward. The DJ lineup is announced closer to the date.
The 4pm start is worth knowing about. The street opens straight into happy hour, so you can come directly from the office, and the first couple of hours are noticeably calmer than the rest of the night. If you want photographs of your costume that are not mostly other people's elbows, come early.
By seven the block is full. That is the fun part, but plan for it.
Getting here
Embarcadero BART and Muni is a four-minute walk. Montgomery is a block further. Both run late enough to get you home.
Do not drive. Front Street itself is closed, the surrounding blocks are busy, and rideshare pickup on a closed street is a special kind of misery. Take the train.
Where to post up
The street is the event, but you will want somewhere to put your drink down eventually.
Harrington's has been on this corner since 1935. Three connected rooms and a long bar, which matters on a night when several thousand people are all thirsty at once:
- The Dark Side is the original 1935 bar. Low light, dark wood, the room where ninety years of this have already happened.
- The Light Side is brighter and built for a crowd, so it absorbs a big group without anyone standing in a doorway.
- The Patio puts you on Front Street itself, which on October 30 is the best seat in the house.
The kitchen stays open while the block is going. Wings, burgers, the big pretzel with Guinness cheese sauce. Eat something.
If you are bringing a group
Turning up with fifteen people on the biggest street party of the year and hoping for the best is a plan, but it is not a good one.
We can hold a room. The Dark Side or the Light Side can be reserved for a group on the night, and if your company wants the whole building we can do that too. Tell us roughly how many of you there are and we will sort out the rest. We are not going to hand you a package and a list of rules.

Already thinking about December?
The same question comes up every year around now: Halloween is handled, what about the company party?
Prime December dates downtown are mostly gone by early October, so if the answer is "we have not booked anything", it is worth a conversation this week rather than next month. We keep weekends free for private buyouts, which means a Saturday party gets you the entire building with nobody else in it.
Nightmare on Front Street, Friday October 30, 2026, 4pm to 10pm. Front Street between California and Sacramento. Free. Bring a costume.
See you on Front Street, if you dare.
