JPM Healthcare Week 2027: A Planning Guide

The 45th J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference runs 11 to 14 January 2027 at the Westin St. Francis on Union Square, and the week around it runs 11 to 15 January.

If you take one thing from this page: the venues go in November, not December. Every year a wave of teams starts looking in the second week of December and finds that the rooms worth having were taken six weeks earlier.

Around those four sit hundreds of private receptions, investor dinners and panels that never appear on any public schedule. That is the actual week. The conference is the reason everyone is in town; the dealmaking happens in rooms somebody booked in advance.

Why this week is harder than a normal conference week

The conference itself is invitation-only, and invitations are not transferable. The 2026 edition drew more than 8,000 attendees. BIO Partnering alone ran over 2,400 participants from 1,600 companies, including more than 600 investors.

So you have thousands of people with full calendars, concentrated in a few blocks around Union Square, nearly all of them trying to host or attend something private in the evening. Three things follow:

• Union Square hotel function space is effectively gone by late November. The hotels know what week it is and price accordingly.
• Restaurant private rooms near the Westin book earlier than almost any week of the year, including December holiday season.
• The best evenings are often invitation-only too, which means the host needed a room before they could send the invitation.

The booking calendar that actually works

Starting in December is the common mistake. By then the pharma business development calendars are full and anything near Union Square is booked. Treat it as a three month project, because that is what it is.

Where the Financial District comes in

Here is the thing most planners miss: you do not have to host on Union Square.

Harrington's is sixteen minutes on foot from Union Square, or four blocks from Montgomery BART. That is a shorter walk than many attendees make between their hotel and their third meeting of the day, and it puts you in a neighbourhood that is not competing with eight thousand people for a table.

The Financial District in January is the quiet side of the same city. Same walking distance, a fraction of the demand, and far more chance of getting the room you actually want on the night you actually want it.

What we can do for the week

Harrington's has been at 245 Front Street since 1935. Three connected rooms, a long bar and a kitchen that does not stop serving at nine:

• The Dark Side, the original 1935 bar, for a dinner where people can hear each other
• The Light Side, brighter and built for a crowd, which absorbs a reception without anyone standing in a doorway
• The whole building, for up to 200 guests, with nobody else in it

If you are only here for lunch

Not every useful hour of that week is in the evening. Working lunches between sessions are the other thing this neighbourhood is good for, and a table at noon in the Financial District is a far easier ask than a table at noon on Union Square.
